People keep telling you about the hidden job market, but you rarely get a concrete answer as to where you should be looking for it or exactly what it is. It’s not really a place as much as it is a time.
The hidden job market is found at any company (big or small) that has a need. They don't even have to realize they have a need. The time between a company having a need and the time they actively start looking for someone. Tapping into the hidden job market allows you to fill the company’s need before anyone else knows about it. When you wait until they post a job ad, you automatically put yourself in competition with every other person who is qualified or even over-qualified for that job. Some of those people are also willing to do that job for much less than you will.
How to Tap Into the Hidden Job Market
1. Network…End of list
Seriously, the only way to find out about potential opportunities is to reach out to people and ask about them. You need to start networking, expanding your network and getting the word out about your skills and availability.
